At Footworks we have a variety of techniques available for resolving problematic toenails. We aim to make the whole process as relaxed and easy as possible keeping you comfortable and reassured throughout.
Nail surgery is a straightforward procedure that is commonly performed to provide permanent resolution and relief of ingrowing or damaged toenails.
The Phenol technique is most commonly used as it offers the highest success rate of 95-97%. Surgical techniques can also be performed which offer a faster healing time (2-3 weeks). Your podiatrist will discuss which is the best option for you based on your circumstances.
Normally 4-6 weeks if you follow aftercare advice and this healing time is normally no different whether you've had a section of nail or the whole nail removed.
What causes ingrowing toenails? Poor cutting technique, the natural shape of the nail being curved, wide or fan-shaped, tightly fitting shoes, sweaty feet, picking at toenails, Injury or trauma. Some medication/ treatments can also affect the toenails.
